It's not even summer yet, but I can't help thinking about Fall and Winter! I love the Autumn season and all of the new, colorful items that will be added to our growing catalog of home decor.

I started a Facebook page and I hope I can get all of my regular customers to sign up as a fans. I'll be posting unpublished sales and product additions that aren't usually included in my quarterly newsletter. Also, I've been doing some ad-hoc sales - like my recent 24 hour countdown offering 25% off - and now you can know about them without having to search through the site. For example, all of our tart burners are on sale through March 20th! Just another way to communicate without clogging up your email system.

Kitty and Rusty, 2005

Today we had to put our Kitty down - she had been suffering from hyper-thyroid disease for the last several years and now recently, her kidneys stopped functioning either partly or altogether. She didn't feel very well this past week and I just thought it was best to let her go. We had her for 11 years - she was about 14 or 15 years old. We're not really sure. She found us one night during a snowstorm. We let her in, gave her food and she stayed with us ever since. The first 5 or 6 years, she was very skittish and stayed under the beds or outside but eventually she learned to trust us and at the end, she slept with us every night and came to us when we asked. She was "friends" with Sophie and Rusty (Rusty passed December 2007) and was an important part of our family. We will miss her. Love you Kitty!

Any polycarbonate cup manufacturers, wick manufacturers or box manufacturers, please submit your contact information to us via the contact form found on our website. We'll be glad to provide you with information to supply us with a quote. All material you manufacture MUST be eco-friendly and of the highest quality.

Our new packaging box is getting closer to completion. This box is made of recycled cardboard and will hold 100 tea lights. It will replace our current shrink-wrap, bubble-wrap method and make it easier for our commercial customers to easily access and store larger quantities of tea lights. We'll be sending out an introductory postcard to all of our commercial customers along with an updated price list.

Not all Soy Candles are Equal

I had a customer call me regarding our Premium Soy Tea Lights. She wondered why my soy tea light burned better and longer than other soy tea lights since "isn't soy the same for everyone". I think she was implying that because she has tried other soy candles that didn't burn as long as mine, then I must be using something other than soy in my tea light candles to make them last longer. Believe me, this was not a call to compliment me but more to discredit my tea lights. I assured her that my candles were 100% complete pure soy wax candles and that my soy candles are not the same as most soy wax candles on the market that use "vegetable additives" or "botanical oils" in the wax. THESE are most likely the soy wax candles that she has been trying in the past who can legally say they are using 100% soy because they are - they just don't mention the botanical oils or vegetable additives. Some soy waxes are even "blended soy" which means they are half soy and half paraffin. The reason these companies use those additives, oils and paraffin is because pure soy wax is very difficult to work with - it is notorious for frosting and cracking. And when you use color, this frosting can be especially unattractive. Believe me, I have tried and tried to totally eliminate the frosting in pure soy wax. We have ben able to minimize the frosting by first selecting what we believe to be the best pure soy waxes on the market and by making our candles the way high end chocolatiers make candy - by a process called "tempering". Heating up the wax, letting it cool, heating it up, letting it cool. Then pouring at a precise temperature and letting it harden s l o w l y to ensure adherence to the container all around. It is a time consuming and picky process and sometimes there is still minimal frosting on a colored tea light but it's a small price to pay for the benefits of a true soy candle.

What are the benefits of a true pure soy candle? Long burning, clean burning and absolutely no toxins or additives that can affect people with allergies and sensitivities to burning candles. Plus it is a product that is completely made in America and supports our farming industry.

So the phone call ended with her realizing that now she has found a company that uses 100% completely all natural soy bean oil candles. PERIOD. It is true, however, that you can also find other companies that use this highest quality soy wax without additives but they usually do not get the 7 hour burn time. I believe this is because we have spent the last 10 years perfecting our tea lights by finding the perfect wick, the perfect polycarbonate cup (the wall thickness and material must adhere to V-2 standards) and the perfect pouring process that creates our perfect Premium Soy Tea Light.

Valentine's Day Rush

Busy day today and tomorrow finishing up candle orders that were delayed due to the Valentine's Day rush.... those last minute shoppers who need something quick for their sweety. I hope to get completely caught up today and everything out tomorrow. UPS has normal pickup on President's Day so no worry there. My granddaughter is coming for the day so it will be more hectic than usual as she tries to "help". My grandson was coming but he's staying home with his Dad so that works out better. I cannot get anything done with a 2 year old (almost 3). He'll be here on Friday though so I'll get my hugs in then.
